  • Each unique hand-crafted die begins as a raw or rough gemstone, thoughtfully selected for attractive features such as color, pattern, or play with light. The stone then goes through a series of steps which involve shaping, and polishing into the final form with the assistance of grinding discs on a faceting machine. I hand-cut and polish every face to a glassy shine to achieve clarity, and intentional beauty. From here, the numbers are sandblasted and painted.

  • The base cost starts at $750 CAD and moves up from there based on the material,

  • Yes! These dice are fully functional for tabletop play, but they are gemstones, meaning they can chip if rolled against hard surfaces. I recommend rolling them in a felt, padded, or leather-lined tray and keeping them away from other dice. Generally speaking, collisions with other hard objects will lead to cracks, chips, or breaks. With mindful use and care, your Soulstone Dice will last for years of story-rich gaming sessions and may even last long enough to be a heirloom.

  • Gemstones naturally vary in density and structure, so each die carries its own unique balance. While perfect symmetry isn’t guaranteed, most stone’s weight and density also prevents the standard method (salt water test) from being used.

Always check with your DM and group and run any tests or verifications with them if you are uncertain.

  • Sizes vary depending on the stone selected, I usually aim to have the stone no smaller than 20 mm (a standard d20) face-to-face for D20s. Some pieces may even be more imposing, every die is unique in dimension as well as character.

Generally I aim for the die to be between 20-50 mm face-to-face.

  • Absolutely! Commissions are currently open, please feel free to email info@soulstonedice.com if you have an idea or would really like something custom made.

Full sets require a substantial amount of time to complete, roughly 30-40+ hours per die, so a full set would take 7 times as long, but can be done! There are unique challenges with this type of work, as getting enough of the same type of material may be difficult to create a proper match while keeping consistency.

  • Handle your dice gently. Softer stones should be cleaned with a damp microfiber cloth and gently dried; harder stones like quartz can be rinsed with mild soap and water if needed. Many stones can absorb water, or dissolve so avoid submerging the die in water, if possible. After use (and especially between sessions), store them in a soft pouch or lined box to preserve their finish and avoid scratches.

  • I try to source material from more local areas within Canada/United States, but that isn’t always possible! I purchase material from local gem stores, and gem shows. On occasion I will source material from online sources - usually lab created material.
